Acupuncture

On their first visit, patients are often asked to fill out a health form. This brief form generally captures the health record and the reasons for their visit to the clinic. Acupuncture treatments can help a patient with the things he or she wants to cure, heal or improve on his or her health. While some turn to acupuncture treatment for one or two ailments, there are some who have dozens of reasons for their visit.

Before the treatment begins a patient is briefly interviewed as well as examined to determine which acupuncture points are best for the patients. This ancient Chinese treatment that was earlier shunned in the American medical science is now being used to treat ailments such as back pain, knee pain, hair loss, diabetes, weight loss, infertility and others.

This is a clear indication that acupuncture treatment can not only improve the quality of life, but also reduce the stress level and ensures improved as well as fast recovery from an injury. The technique also helps human beings maintain their emotional balance.

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese practice performed by placing ultra- thin needles in certain parts of the human body. Today, over 3.5 million people in the United States alone, depends on acupuncture treatments. Acupuncture works by releasing the flow of the vital energy in the human body.

This technique works by stimulating certain points along fourteen different pathways. These needles further compel the human body to release a natural painkiller called endorphins, which improves the blood flow and changes in the activities of a human brain.

Functional Medicine

Functional medicine is relatively unknown to the public still, but has been gaining popularity recently. Functional medicine is quite different than what we have come to know as conventional medicine or the standard model of care.

Functional medicine is different because it is based on the idea that each individual is different. It allows for us to treat the individual rather than the disease or symptom, like conventional medicine would. It also supports the normal healing mechanisms of the body, naturally, rather than attacking disease directly.

When many hear the term “functional medicine” they don’t often equate it with science, however functional medicine is extremely science based. In fact, research has shown that what happens within us is connected in a complicated network or web of relationships. Functional medicine doesn’t focus on what drug matches with a disease, and instead focuses on why the problem is there in the first place, and what can we do to restore function?

Overall Wellness

Wellness has to do with a person’s physical, social, and mental health. We know that mental, social and physical health are linked, and when one starts to wane, it can have a direct impact on the others. According to UC Davis, “Wellness matters because everything we do and every emotion we feel relates to our well-being. In turn, our well-being directly affects our actions and emotions. It’s an ongoing circle. Therefore, it is important for everyone to achieve optimal wellness in order to subdue stress, reduce the risk of illness, and ensure positive interactions.”

Health if typically used to refer to overall mental and physical state of a person, or in other words, the absence of disease. But wellness refers to the state of being in optimal mental and physical health. Overall wellness and health is something that all should strive for and create a lifestyle around wellness instead of trying to find quick solutions to problems.
